Thunguma Children &Youth Empowerment Centre is an institution located in Thunguma area, 6km from Nyeri town. It was established in October the year 2006 by the Nyeri local government (Nyeri municipal council) in partnership with churches & NGO to aid in rehabilitation and empowerment of the street children and youth in the region.

The institution boasts of a population of 135, with the children in primary, secondary and even university level of education. The Rotaract club of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), identified the need for water in the institution and wrote a proposal which they presented to D&S #ImprovingLives Initiative. The proposal was awarded and the partnership resulted in the supply of a Dayliff DCX2-50P water engine pump. This will go a long way in helping the centre engage in agricultural activities as a way of food production for the centre and also as an income generating activity. The project was commissioned on 23/04/2021, to the joy and appreciation of the staff and children at the institution.
